The PROTASIS project was presented to wide audience scientific and professional audience during the VIII Annual Conference of the Victimology Society of Serbia, entitled “Victims between security, human rights and justice: Local and global context”. The conference, organised by the Victimology Society of Serbia, was held between November 30th and December 1st, 2017 in Belgrade, Serbia. Prof. Vasso Artinopoulou, PROTASIS’s scientific coordinator, was among the keynote speakers delivering a presentation on ‘Training police on the needs of the gender-based violence victims – The PROTASIS project’.
Prof. Artinopoulou spoke about the background and the identified educational and practical needs which led to the proposal of the PROTASIS project. Moreover, she described the project’s objectives and activities, its consortium, and its beneficiaries. Finally, Prof. Artinopoulou presented the outline and aims of the PROTASIS training curriculum for police officers, which is currently piloted in Italy, Portugal and Greece.
The conference aimed to enhance the dialogue among experts, practitioners and researchers in the fields of victims’ rights and human rights, in developing a critical thinking regarding the concepts and connection points between security, human rights, justice, and the victims’ position within the global and local responses to crime. Presentations included topics on victimology, victimization, victims’ rights and needs, security issues, human rights, support and protection of victims, gender and age issues, and many more topics on national, European, and global aspects of victimization.
