On the 15th of May, a conference on “Dating Violence” was held in Escola Secundária de Camões (Camões’ High school). The conference, organized by the Federation of Socialists Students of Lisbon and supported by the Student’s Council, counted with the intervention of Inês Ferreira Leite, Professor of Law, and João Bilhim, Professor of Sociology and was followed by a debate with the students. Since some of the students showed concern on whether the Portuguese police forces were trained to receive and handle a complaint made by a terrified and unsure victim of domestic violence or other forms of abuse, Professor Inês Ferreira Leite took the opportunity to present to the students the Protasis – Police Training Skill, co-funded by the EU, explaining the goals of the project and the elaboration of a referrals catalogue to be available for all victims.
An activity of the Socialist Students took place last May 15. “Violence in Dating” was the theme of the conference that took place in the Liceu Camões Library, which included Inês Ferreira Leite and João Bilhim as speakers. The table was also attended by Tiago Veloso, national coordinator of the Socialist Students and João Maltez as moderator of the initiative and federation coordinator of the Socialist Students of Lisbon. Because some students have expressed concern about the training of police forces to receive and refer, provide support, complaints of victims of domestic violence or other forms of abuse, when the victims are very frightened or insecure of the complaint, Professor Inês Ferreira Leite seized the opportunity To publicize the Protasis Project – Police Training Skill, co-financed by the EU, explaining the objectives of the project and reporting on the development of a catalog of victim support associations that will be made available to all victims. Two hours of reflection, discussion and sharing of experiences that you can see, in part, in the direct available at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/estudantessocialistas/videos/1736893563277060/
